Dried apricots

Dried apricots are apricots that have had most of their water content removed, either through sun-drying or the use of commercial dehydrators. This process concentrates their flavour and nutrients, and helps to preserve them. They are a good source of dietary fibre and certain vitamins and minerals.

Dried apricots are used as a natural sweetener and flavour enhancer in a variety of foods. They are commonly found in breakfast cereals, mueslis, baked goods like flapjacks and cookies, and as an ingredient in savoury dishes such as tagines and curries. Their chewy texture also makes them a popular snack.

Dried apricots are a whole food and not a food additive, so they do not have an E-number or require authorisation on the Register of Food Additive Authorisations. They are a source of fibre, which contributes to a healthy digestive system. Like other dried fruits, they contain natural sugars. The NHS Eatwell Guide recommends that dried fruit be consumed in moderation due to its sugar content. There are no notable controversies regarding the consumption of dried apricots at typical intake levels.
