Fruits preparation

Fruit preparation is a mixture of fruit, sugar, and other ingredients, often including fruit juice concentrate, water, and sometimes thickeners or preservatives. It is used to add fruit flavour, colour, and texture to food products. The exact composition can vary widely depending on the intended use and the type of fruit.

Manufacturers add fruit preparations to provide a natural or enhanced fruit taste and appearance in a variety of products. They are commonly found in yogurts, desserts, baked goods, and confectionery. Their role is primarily to impart flavour and contribute to the overall sensory appeal of the food.

Fruit preparation is not typically classified as a food additive under UK law; rather, it is considered a food ingredient. Its health implications are generally related to its sugar content, as fruit preparations often contain added sugars. The NHS advises limiting intake of free sugars, which should not exceed 5% of total dietary energy. While specific regulatory evaluations for 'fruit preparation' as a whole are not usually made, individual components like added sugars or preservatives would be subject to safety assessments by bodies such as EFSA.
