Red grape juice

Red grape juice is made by pressing ripe red grapes to extract their juice. The colour comes from the grape skins, which are often left in contact with the juice during processing. It is a natural source of sugars, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Red grape juice is primarily used as a natural sweetener and flavouring agent in a variety of food and drink products. It is commonly found in smoothies, multifruit juices, and sometimes in baked goods like biscotti to add moisture and a fruity taste.

Red grape juice is not considered a food additive and therefore does not have an E-number or require authorisation on the Register of Food Additive Authorisations. It is a source of natural sugars, and consumption should be considered within the context of dietary guidelines for sugar intake. Some research suggests potential cardiovascular benefits from antioxidants like resveratrol found in grapes, though evidence from juice consumption is mixed and requires further study. The WHO/IARC has classified unprocessed comminuted (processed) meat as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), but this does not apply to fruit juices.
